I’m so blessed to have learned from the best.
I love you!
I’m so blessed to have learned from the best.
I love you!
So, we survived.
The race, er challenge, was a blast and not nearly as hard as I thought it would be!
I knew there would be a few obstacles I physically wouldn’t be able do (the monkey bars and rings, which were basically just swims for me!), but there were some that surprised me. I thought it would be easy to walk the plank:
But it was so much higher than it looks – and the water (mud?) was 17 feet deep!
I actually panicked for a hot second when I hit the water.
And the mud mile?
I thought for sure I’d hate it with a passion but I actually kind of liked it.
It was challenging getting up those 8 ft piles of mud (x8!).
I obviously wasn’t the only one who liked that obstacle.
And despite a few bad bruises:
It was totally worth it.
Even the Electroshock Therapy was worth it (where I got shocked no less than 10 times – and, damn, it hurt!).
But this picture makes me laugh every time:
Deagan (tall guy in the middle) is laughing at Jimi (in the blue) for falling. His mouth is wide open in laughter while his teammate falls from the shock. True love right there, people.
The WODFathers are Tough Mudders!
And that pancake throw down?
It was pretty much a draw.
Banana pancakes for the win!
Pancakes: banana, blueberry, or chocolate chip?? Chocolate chip for me!
Saturday was the day. My first Crossfit Games WOD!
This workout was NO JOKE. Burpees and snatches for 17 minutes.
For me, this translated to “17 minutes of “just trying not to die”.
I was honestly really nervous Saturday morning. I knew I could do the first 3 rounds, but I had never been able to complete a 75 lb snatch before. I tried on Thursday and failed miserably, so my goal was to at least do ONE. I was praying and praying the adrenaline would get me through at least one 75 snatch (kind of like how you get through those last few miles of a marathon!).
Forty burpees. GO!
Forty burpees get your heart rate jacked in no time. They take a lot out of you!
Thirty 45 lb snatches.
I knew these wouldn’t be much trouble so I just tried to bang them out as fast as I could while still trying to breathe. Lifting that bar up overhead keeps your heart rate up like whoa.
Back to the burpees. I remember cursing under my breath that I had 5 left and when I looked at my friend, Allison (who was judging me), and signaled 5? with my hand (no way could I talk at this moment), she said “no, only one left – do it!”. I was so relieved that I immediately dropped to the ground to finish them up. Funny how that works.
Thirty 75 lb snatches.
All that was going through my head was “please, please, please let me be able to do one. please!” Lol. I’m not kidding.
Luckily I had Allison cheering my on (I seriously think she wanted it as bad as I did – and I love her for that).
It took me a few tries, and my form was absolutely horrendous at times, but I did it!
And not just one.
Hahaha, isn’t that picture hilarious?! Everyone was yelling and cheering when I finally finished one that I couldn’t help smiling. I’m such a nerd, but it was the best!
I couldn’t have done it without Allison, J, and the rest of the gym cheering me on. It was pure will and determination that got the bar over my head. It wasn’t pretty, and I know I have to work on my form/technique, but I don’t even care anymore at this point. I’m still just excited I did it!!
And now I’m totally looking forward to what next week’s workout will be. It’s like that runner’s high, but with Crossfit.
What have you done lately out of pure will and determination?
I can’t even tell you the last time I ran in anything but Nike.
So it kinda feels like I’m cheating.
But ever since the Chicago marathon I’ve been having this horrible pain on the outside of my left foot after every run (tendonitis maybe? b/c the only thing that helps it is ice and rest).
So I finally had to give in a get new shoes.
Bye bye, Nike. And hellllooooo, Mizuno !
I wasn’t sold at first because I was still having some lingering pain after my runs, but I think that was just my foot healing from before because (knock on wood) my foot didn’t hurt at all after yesterday’s run.
I’m praying this is the answer – I don’t have time to waste being injured. Disney’s in a month (ahhhhhhhh)!
What’s your favorite brand of running shoe??
Hey guys it’s Jay,
Heather & C are down in Myrtle Beach but I wanted to give you an update on the Biggie situation.
After Kimi, Heather and I canvased the town with “Lost Puppy” fliers on Saturday, I decided that this morning I would hit Vermilion on bike after I dropped Heather at the airport for her 6:00 am flight to Myrtle.
I hit Vermilion when the sun was rising and after 10 miles of looking at this
I was no where closer to finding Biggie.
I did the loop where I thought he might be a few times and after striking out there too I opted to try some off the bean’n path roads like this
The rain was starting and I had covered 26 miles in 4:15 mins and I honestly was feeling pretty hopeless so I figured I’d call it a day and try again tomorrow.
I’ll be honest. My Instagrams and tweets were not to keep you guys up to date, but my way of keeping my spirits up. My posts would land some fantastically positive responses telling me not to lose hope. This encouragement along with Heather and C’s is what kept me peddling and looking for Biggie.
Vermillion is roughly 45 mins from Lakewood and every drive back without the little guy was making me feel more and more helpless. I guess no one likes to fail or let down the ones you love right?
After getting home and grabbing some food I collapsed on the couch for about 2 hours. I was exhausted from the stress, the search, the logistics involved in stopping a vacation in motion.
I woke to my phone ringing. Heather was calling from Myrtle to tell me a nice man had let her know that he saw Biggie Friday night. While this was super nice, it wasn’t anything new to us but we were touched by the effort.
When my phone rang a few minutes later I didn’t think much of it, but instead I hear…
“She HAS HIM! SHE HAS HIM!!!!!, Kimi Has HIM!!!!!”
I think all I said was…”I’m on my way…”
I get a text a few minutes into the drive with this picture attached. I couldn’t believe It was him!
He looked super skinny with his ribs showing, but he aside from that he looked great!
Kimi and her husband had taken part in the races in Vermilion this morning and had just returned from grabbing some food when they heard a terrible howling sound. They looked out the back door to find Biggie on their porch wanting inside.
When they let him in he ate a lot of food, he’s like his daddy , and wasn’t dirty and smelly like a dog on the run should be after 2 days? He smelled like he had just received a bath even?
There’s a lot of stuff I’d love to know about his “trip” but honestly I am just so thrilled to have him home that I really don’t care about all the strange details like…
How’d he get into their fenced in back yard to get up on the porch?
Why was he so clean and smelled like he just had a bath?
Where the F#$%^ were you hiding the last 2 days boy!
Are you really Agent B.I.G?
After a celebratory beer with Mike we left for home.
The ride home went like this
And even now we are still doing this
Trying to stay positive is one thing, but actually believing 100% that a bad situation will end up in your favor is another. We are SOOOOO lucky to have Biggie back.
Thanks to everyone who posted, tweeted, Facebooked, or texted and called with your support. It truly means a lot to us to have you in our corner during these emergencies.
What did I learn over the last 2 days?
I can honestly say that after this weekend I learned 2 new things.
1. 7lb dogs are smarter and tougher than me (and you too Heather!)
2. Vermilion is a small and fantastic town filled with super friendly people. Thanks Vermilion!
Now it’s time for me to finally crash after this madness.
P.S. Sorry for all the reading. I tried not to turn this into the Iliad, but I should have known that was impossible for me.
I’m so excited that tomorrow is Thursday already! But I’m also sad because my most favorite lil guy is going on vacation for a week without me! He’s headed to the beach with J’s family (sadly we couldn’t go since we already planned a vacation in August) and is bouncing off the walls.
Since I’m not going to the beach I figured I’d at least head to the pool for a workout. Here’s what I did:
Then I put on an aqua jogger belt and “ran” in the pool for an additional 12 laps (300).
The laps felt good but the jogging made my ankle hurt a little. I wanted to do more but I knew I needed to call it a day. I almost feel like my ankle is getting worse rather than better so I’m trying to be smart until my PT appointment next week.
When I got home it was time to WORK:
He wanted to help. Trust me.
We had to clean the baseboards because our living/dining room is getting a makeover!
I’m trying to lighten the place up – it always seems so dark and gloomy in our living room so we’ll see if my plan pans out.
I’m always the trimmer and J’s the roller. So while I was (happily) trimming away, this happened:
The blinds fell on him while he was taking them down and split open his nose. I thought for sure we were going to have to go to the emergency room for stitches. But he insisted that it was fine and that it would just be a waste of our time. I’m still not so sure.
You can’t tell from the picture, but this sucker is DEEP (bad joke right now, but TWSS – hehe).
For realz – it was scary for awhile at first. The two of us just can’t catch a break. I’m pretty sure we’ve used up all our bad luck for the year. It’s all good luck from here on out!!
How has your year been going so far? I’ll TRY not to use up all the good luck these next 6 months……………maybe.
Time sure does fly when you are having fun
We have all said that phrase a million times, but never has it been more true for me than over the last 1,972 days of my life. I’ll explain.
Day #1: (September 22, 2005)
Meeting on a kickball team organized by a mutual friend of ours, we had our first non-date when a group of us road-tripped to Erie, PA on a random Thursday night to see The Clarks play. Later that weekend we would have another non-date when we saw The 40 Year Old Virgin and then had some late night muchies at Eat’n Park afterwards. (there’s some free dating advice for you gentlemen as it must have worked!)
Day # 1130:
Our wedding day and without a doubt the best day of my life. Things had been so fantastic between day #1 and now that if we didn’t have the pictures to prove it, I wouldn’t believe it myself
It’s also my best day because I went from having a family….
…to being one. Love you guys.
Day #1,972 (today)
Heather, you are my inspiration, my motivation, my strength, and my rock. My life is soooo much better with you in it. I love you so much.
Happy 6th Valentines Day.
P.S. Happy Valentines Day to all of you bloggies out there as well. My apologies for hijacking your normally scheduled programming, but a man has to do what a man has to do.
Hey guys!! Can you believe it? I had TWO snow days in a row! Totally lucked out. And it was glorious.
Though, I have to say, I’m kind of itching to go back to work tomorrow (crazy, right?). I have a TON to do, and I like being in a routine!
So, did you know that February is National Ab Month?
The whole idea is to take the shortest month of the year and promise to do some kind of ab work every day until March. Seems reasonable, right? The best part of this is that your abs start to show results quickly if you stick to it. I love that about ab work!
Lucky for me, since I had today off work, I was able to do a Jackie Warner ab workout from On Demand.
That lady is seriously ripped. A little TOO much for my liking, but ripped none the less!
So my goal is to do core work every day this month. Since I teach I do core work pretty regularly, but this will force me to switch up my routine and get creative. I’ll never have abs like Jackie, but I do want to get some sort of definition. We always go to an indoor waterpark in March or April to get rid of our “winter blues” and I need to shape up!
Other than that, I didn’t do much today. It was great. I relaxed and spent the day in my jammies – pretty fantastic.
J went to the Cavs game tonight with some friends, so I got to spend the night with this guy:
Love nights like these. We played cards, DDR, and Just Dance2! We’re very competitive in this house, but tonight was all about fun. It was a great way to end the Snowpocalypse.
Have a great night! Who’s with me on the ab challenge??
I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one excited about homemade nut butter! It’s going quickly, I promise you that.
This morning I had a nice surprise……..SNOW DAY! C’s school called at 6:20 to tell us school was cancelled and almost immediately following I had a text telling me work was closed, too. So even though I was already fully dressed for work, I went right upstairs and hopped back into bed (work clothes and all). Who am I to argue with this ridiculously bad weather? And right now it’s sleeting outside – my bet is tomorrow is going to be worse than today since it’s going to be icy everywhere. Don’t think I can count on 2 snow days in a row, though……….
Anyways, enough about the weather (have any of you fallen asleep yet?). Sunday I had the pleasure of trying a restaurant that I had been dying to go to for awhile now. Three of my favorite blogger and I met for brunch at Flying Fig Sunday morning.
From their website:
“The Fig, as we are affectionately called by our customers, has long been at the forefront of the farm-to-table movement. In our eleventh year, it remains our goal to support small family farms and local food artisans while creating critically acclaimed menus that evolve frequently to reflect seasonal availability. Our atmosphere reflects our divers neighborhood and is casual and friendly.”
We wasted no time diving right in. Suzanne ordered the Tempura Battered French Fries for the table to share, and I ordered the Pecan Sticky Bun for us all to share (but who am I kidding – I ate most of it and didn’t take a picture either – I think that shows how good it was!).
These were fantastic. The plate was empty by the end of the meal.
For my meal I ordered the Migas:
I love peppers in my eggs!
Like usual, we ended up staying at the restaurant for over 2 hours talking and laughing and just being obnoxious. Katrina always says that we get dirty looks from the other customers when we go out because we get so loud (and this is without alcohol!).
However, I can always count on them for a good time and always look forward to our get togethers. It’s awesome to meet other bloggers who share the same interests and have similar personalities!
Love these girls:
Here’s hoping for a snow day tomorrow!!
How do you like your eggs? My favorite is scrambled with lots of fresh veggies mixed in (and cheese, of course!).
First off, I just want to say THANK YOU for all the wonderful comments on yesterday’s post. I wasn’t sure if I should post something so personal, but then I figured this IS a blog about my life and all and I’ll post what I want. So, thank you!!
When we got home from the hospital Friday night, J’s mom mentioned that we had received a package while we were gone.
Ummmmmmmmmm……..hello, my new BFF:
J and I had been anxiously awaiting the delivery of our new purchase. What a nice surprise to come home to after being in the hospital for 2 days!
Not sure I’m a fan of the blue, but they only had blue, red, or white since we bought it from QVC on sale. So blue it was.
First on the agenda? Homemade nut butter (we don’t waste time, people)!
We started with peanut butter by using roasted peanuts. That’s it, nothing else.
It started off chunky……..
…….but with a little persuading, quickly turned smooth as buttah:
Check out how smooth!
I was so worried what was going to happen because last time when I tried to make pb in my food processor all I got was this weird pasty, gross textured crap. I was so amazed at how quickly the Vitamix blended the peanuts and how smooth it came out – drippy, even, which I LOVE.
Next up was my favorite…..almond butter!
It starts off looking chalky almost:
So to help out the process, I added my favorite honey (instead of oil).
We got this stuff from on our vacation last year to Savannah. I don’t think we’ll ever buy another kind of honey. Does that make us honey snobs……?
Anyways, back to the nut butters.
Weird that the almond butter made more, but with the same amount of nuts. Anyone know why that is? Or maybe we just taste tested more of the pb…..it’s possible.
Anyone else see what I see? (yes, I have a horribly dirty mind)
All 3 of us are totally into these so I wonder how long they will last. Any guesses?
I’m so excited to play more with the Vitamix. Tonight I made my favorite protein waffles and the batter blended up in less than 15 seconds! This thing is seriously powerful.
Do you own a Vitamix? What’s your favorite thing to make with it? I’m ready to play!
