Running Doesn’t Get Snow Days
This is what Christie said to me while we were running down the middle of a snow covered street Saturday morning. It literally felt like we were in a Nike ad with the caption “Running doesn’t get snow days.”
We knew there was a chance of snow but when I woke up it was still clear. No snowflakes whatsoever.

But between the time I left my house and the time I got to Christie’s at 7:00, this is what happened:

Seriously. Unfortunately this caused Kimi to not be able to meet up with us (she lives out in the boondocks – still trying to convince her to move her cute little ass closer to us – no luck so far
), but since I was already there Christie and I decided to put our big girl panties on and get it over with.

The beginning of the run was rough. It was dark, slippery, and tough to get our footing. Stupid snow. It was snowing pretty heavily and hard to see sometimes. But once the sun came up, and were on roads where we could run right down the center of the street, we were able to pick up our pace a little. The 6 miles flew by and it actually ended up being a lot of fun running in the snow!

- Mile 1 = 9:50
- Mile 2 = 9:34
- Mile 3 = 9:39
- Mile 4 = 9:35
- Mile 5 = 9:27
- Mile 6 = 9:20
- Last .09 = 8:15
Hellooooo, negative splits. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen you……. And a 9:33/mile average pace – been awhile since I’ve seen you, too! Not too bad with running in that weather. Not.too.bad.
And because we’re big nerds, we all sent virtual high fives when we were finished.

I really meant it when I said we were big nerds. But we’re fun big nerds. And I kinda love it.
And would you know that after I got home and showered, the snow had stopped and the sun even ended coming out later in the day?! Seriously. No joke. Cleveland weather is ridiculous.
How was the weather by you this weekend?

The weather was actually quite beautiful here in Atlanta, but sadly the weekend got away from us with things we were working on in the house. Glad you got the run in though! I fun big nerds! That’s exactly what we are too here!
OMG…y’all are crazy
I can’t run outside when its even cold haha. Weather here was pretty nice..
HIGH FIVE!
Awesome job!! Running in the snow can be fun on occasion. I love the virtual high fives!
High five girl!! I’m a nerd too, it’s ok.
I sometimes want to wuss out when it’s time to run and it gets gross out there but sometimes those turn out to be the best runs, huh? Nicely done!
Snow runs are my favorite! It’s a lot better than running in the stinking rain. Yuck! #highfive
Toats love the virtual high fives. You girls are so cute!
that is the truth… no excuses! way to go guys!
I remember running in weather like that when I lived in Erie, PA! It was equally awful and rewarding at the same time! For some reason, running brutal heat and humidity during the summers here in FL never quite feels “rewarding”…but during our “winter” it’s perfect, so I’ll take the trade-off!
YOu are brave. I woke up to that weather and instantly changed into gym clothes instead of outside clothes. I cannot run 14 miles in a blizzard by myself. I love that you name your alarms because I do the same thing.
get it! i literally took cabela for a run the only 30 minutes it was snow-storming yesterday. we lasted about 2 miles
you BRAVE lady! i woulda 100% stayed in bed
. so happy to see you have your running mojo back – you look so *happy* in your pics!!
Ok – how do you pull off running in the snow like that? Like I know I’m a huge baby about winter running, but aren’t you so scared you’re going to slip? I love snow and sometimes I think it’s even a little warmer when it’s snowing (?), but I can just see my self falling and tearing my ACL or breaking an elbow or crack open my skull. I definitely hit the ‘mill on Saturday when I woke up to that snow!
Wow, awesome job!!! And you look so cute in these pictures!! You did awesome, despite the snow, to boot!! Rock on sista!!!
When I was training for my first half I ran through snow and.freezing rain on my 11 miler – it was then I knew I was a runner.
love the title of the post.
