Twelve miles = my long run today.

The plan was to run 4 miles super early, 4 more during today’s Fantastic 4 Miler, and then 4 more after the race. But my plans were foiled when I got caught in a massive downpour 2 miles into the first 4 miles! It was 7:10am and I had no idea one of the local bars would actually be open. But it was…………and there were people in there reading the paper and drinking! They did let me use their phone to call J to come pick me up, though, so I can’t complain. But, really????

After a quick change, we headed downtown for the inaugural Fantastic 4 Miler.

This race was AWESOME.

The brace faces pre-race.

First stop was the Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Oh, hey there, Steeler fan, high fiving the Browns mascot!

We ran around the field:

And then back up East 9th to the Q.

C makes running look awful, right? ;)

Into the Q:

And onto the floor where the Cavaliers play!

Then out of the Q,

and straight onto the Indian’s field for the finish:

Awesome, right?!

We ended up finishing right around 40 minutes, which was perfect for my long run, and for C, since this was a new PDR for him! The furthest he ever ran before was a 5k. He really hung in there and never walked, which was really something.

Proud of both these guys today. :)

Then we headed home, I ate 2 Clif shot blocks, and was back out the door to finish up my run.

And even in the humidity I felt great! My Garmin is acting all weird since my bike crash, so I ran without it (and loved it!). I wasn’t worried about my pace, just ran by feel, and checked the clock when I got home (right around a 10 minute mile). Loved it.

I will totally do this race again. Of course there are some kinks to be worked out, but it was the first time they’ve ever done this race so that’s to be expected. The course totally made up for it!

Twelve miles down. Bring on 14 next weekend…………!

p.s. Anyone in town wanna run some (or all) miles with me?? Email me!

What did you do to start your Sunday this morning?

I did almost 7 miles to start my day!

Congrats on the race! I seriously love that your fam gets so into it. My parents are now obsessed with coming to watch races, which is fun, but I wish more people would run WITH me…

I think it so cool you guys are starting to exercise as a family. I hope to be able to do that with my boys soon. C looks like he felt very accomplished post race. Congrats to him for not walking!

Nicely done – I ran in the rain on Saturday but it was that perfect kind of rain (aka, not a downpour). If I was nearby, I’d totally go run with you!

YaY! 12 miles get it done! :D

Some people work night shift so early morning is their “evening” and downtime. That could be why there were folks in the bar and drinking. ;)

What a fun course. Good for you getting back out there after a race. I can run before a race but just don’t have it afterwards.

  11. July 16th, 2012 at 10:35 | #11

Wow, that looked awesome! I am so bummed I didn’t sign up for it! Next year :)

Looks like a great time! Yay! Nice job on the total miles.
Have fun going on the 14.

ps – sorry about your bike crash. ouch. but glad you are okay.

If I didn’t see your tweet I would still know which bar you are talking about. I’ve gone past there and seen people at 6am. I swear that places never closes but I think it actually does at some point.
That race looked so fun, like a nice fun run, not a competition race. Maybe I’ll get the chance to run in next year.

Congrats to C, that is awesome! We cleaned the garage on Sunday. Nothing quite like your day, but definitely a challenge…to say the least.

Not to totally creep you out- but I was home this weekend and on our way to brunch I swear I saw you running. If it wasn’t you running down Detroit, it was def someone who looked like you wearing an I heart sweat tee. I said to my family “I think I know her. Not IRL, but a blog I read- her name is Heather.” I didn’t even know a race was happening in Cleve this weekend- until I looked over at the table next to me at Lattitude 41 and saw someone taking their bib off. Maybe I’ll do it next year- it sure was humid though!
