I Like The Virrata A Lotta

When I was given the opportunity to review the new Saucony Virrata’s by Fitfluential, I jumped at the chance (duh, they’re running shoes!). Plus, I ran the Pittsburgh and Cleveland marathons in Saucony’s, so the brand has been good to me. :)

But I really wanted to try them because they’re a zero drop shoe, meaning there’s no lift under the heel. Typical of minimalist shoes, and not shoes that I’ve ever run in.

And they’re SO DAMN PRETTY!

I wore them to work the day after I got them (casual Friday!) and kind of fell in love with the fit and how light they are. It didn’t hurt that I got a ton of compliments on them either. ;)

In theory, they’re supposed to help you land mid foot instead of on your heel (i.e. proper running form). But what really intrigued me is that even though there’s a zero drop, they still have foam cushioning underneath the foot, which is comparable to traditional running shoes. I never thought I’d be able to wear minimalist shoes, but these are the perfect shoe to give it a shot!

So far I’ve only run in them twice, and only for 3 miles each time. And to be honest, they were so light that it felt like I was flying on the treadmill! My calves were a little sore the day after the first run (probably because I was running mid foot!) but they’ve been fine ever since. They’re definitely great for my shorter runs, and I still want to try them on a speed work day. The weight (or lack there of) has to be awesome for speed work!

I’m grateful for the opportunity to try these shoes. I love expanding my knowledge and experience with everything, but especially running!

Do you wear different shoes for speed work vs. longer run days??

I was sent these shoes for review purposes by Saucony through my affiliation with Fitfluential. All opinions, as always, are my own.

I’m loving the colors of those shoes! I’ve heard good things about the Virratas–that they’re so light that you feel like you can go super fast. I don’t wear different shoes for speed work, but I do have a pair that I have for shorter races. Maybe I should try those for speed work once in a while. I hope you continue to love your new shoes! :)

I’m highly curious about the minimalist shoes. I want to try more shoes for running more out of curiosity than anything else. These are super cute!

Cool. My husband is all about minimalist shoes and proper form. He did end up going to Newton’s though b/c they do have some cushioning but still aid in proper form. I don’t wear different shoes for speed vs long runs other than rotating out a newer pair for long and older pair for shorter runs.

I have long been curious about the whole minimalist thing – isn’t everyone after the read Born To Run?! And these are so CUTE!

I am the worst at not changing up my shoes – I think I have been wearing the same pair for the last three years! Inside, outside, sprints, jogs, walks. They are very pretty shoes!!

Zero drop shoes make my calves hurt too- it takes awhile to adjust to the different muscle groups used, but I want to make that transition, too. Love the bright colors!

Congrats on your first FF campaign. I didn’t realize you hadn’t done one before. They are so pretty…I think I saw someone at the gym wearing them tonight actually. Love reading everyone reactions.

I’ve been really curious about zero drop and minimalist shoes but haven’t tried them because I’m scared of the transition period to get used to the shoes. But I love that these have a bit more cushioning and that they seem like a fairly easy transition. Definitely something that I’m going to look into further.

I just got a pair as well. love them. amazed at the lightness. could feel the change in landing, but that’s a good thing. means I am doing it correctly. big thumbs up.
