Switching Up My Runs and I DID A PULLUP!
Since running and I are going through a rough patch right now, I’ve been trying to find ways to switch up my runs. I need to keep them interesting in order for me to stay interested.
So when I hit the treadmill this past Sunday, this is what I did:
- Run 1/2 mile
- 10 burpees
- 15 squats
- 20 situps
- Repeat 6 times
I was a nice and sweaty beast afterwards (those burpees are killer).

Worst photo ever? Possibly.
But I got my run done, and fast at that. Breaking it up into 1/2 mile chunks was pretty genius. If I can keep this up then I’ll be golden come the Cleveland 10k!
Then I went outside in the snow flurries and jump roped until I linked 11 double unders. Not so easy for me. I always get stuck at ten (or less) and it’s so frustrating.
But I realized the other day that some of you might not know what double unders are. Duh, totally my fault! When you jump rope and the rope goes under your feet one time, that’s a single under – what most of us are used to doing. A double under is when the rope goes around twice during one jump. I always think of boxers or wrestlers doing these – they always look so badass. I just look like I was whipped when I’m done – the rope kills me!
BREAKING NEWS:
Today was amazing because I FINALLY DID A PULLUP!!!! Holy crap, guys. I am so jacked. Totally feel like a gangsta (you know, when you’ve got money and power and hot shoulders).

(source) – Thanks Mase!
AND it was after I had done 25 with a band. It was totally LEGIT. And J saw me, so I’m totally not lying. Now I just pray I can do another one tomorrow!!
How do you get your runs done when you’re “just not feeling it”?
What makes you feel like a gangsta??

I can’t believe you can make yourself do that workout on your own. This is why you’re my workout hero.
I go into intervals when I’m having a hard time. I used to get upset about that feeling like I was giving up, but I really believe those are the runs that change you because they are challenging. You are definitely a gangsta! Congrats on the pull up! Damn you’re kicking some ass these days! You’re a beast!
ah! Wait to rock it!!!!!! I know I always say this, but I try to focus on how happy I will feel after if I finish my run. That and I’ll bring Kaylin with me. Shes always singing in the stroller and that makes me happy/feel more motivated
Way to go! I’ve never done a pull up… like ever… lol
hahaha I love the gangsta thing. Hearing you talk about pull ups makes me want to do them now.
That’s a kick ass workout! And I am impressed with anyone who can do double unders–I hate them!
When is Cleveland 10k? My parents are back there and sometimes I combine racing with a visit.
congrats, lady!!
Way to go Heather!!
Woohoo – awesome job on the pullup!!! I might be jealous
If that is your worst photo ever I am incredibly jealous.
Congrats on the pull-up – that’s awesome! I think I did one once. In high school. And I’m not really sure if that actually occurred or if I just choose to believe it happened.
Holy crap you are badass!! That running workout AND the pullup thing? You are my hero
BAD ASS! That is awesome!! and that run – whoa nelly, that is crazy hard, you must have been sooo sweaty!
Whoop there it is!!! Welcome to team pull-up!! Proud & happy for you! keep cranking!
Way to go on that pull up! I’ve been trying for years and still can’t do one with assist. My arms are long and “stringy”. That’s my excuse
CONGRATS on your pull up! SO SO awesome. That’s a goal of mine
I love that workout — looks awesome and crazy effective.
That is such a clever idea to get you run in!
Ahh! A pullup! AWESOME!!!! You are a gangsta!
I am still working hard to be able to do a pull up on my own, so you have me totally inspired to keep my butt working at it!!! And congrats on the braces your teeth look great and I’m sure it was worth it!
