Step Wars: Chicago vs. Cleveland

My Fitbit goes crazy when I visit Chicago. In September I remember texting a picture to Jay at 11am of my Fitbit reading over 11,000 steps already that day!

So, I was curious as to how it would be when we went to visit 2 weekends ago since there was a huge snow storm and we were taking public transportation everywhere (opposed to walking).

And it was still a HUGE difference.

Sunday we went for a 3 mile or so run/walk along the water, watched House of Cards, and then went out to dinner and for drinks. Nothing too active.

Monday all we did was watch more House of Cards, go to an early dinner, and then to the JT concert (it was a very chill weekend).

At home, my normal daily average is so much less than that!

Ha, and that included my Crossfit workout.

It’s a struggle for me to get 10,000 steps a day in Cleveland! But, in Chicago I have no trouble, even with a brutal snow storm. It’s no surprise my sis can eat out frequently and drink and still look amazing without working out. She’s walking miles upon miles every day!

Lakewood is definitely the most walkable “suburb” of Cleveland, but what can you do in the winter. I’ll be curious if these numbers will change come summertime!

Do you live in a walkable city? I love that we can walk to the grocery store, the park, dinner, school, ice cream :) .

A HUGE thanks to Verizon Wireless for offering to let me try out the Fitbit Flex – I’m 100% a Fitbit lover and all opinions are my own.

On my work days that are also rest days, I’m finding my step count is so so low. It makes me want to get up early to even just walk 30 minutes… although I’m not sure even with just 30 would get me to 10K for a day! I really like this comparison – good stuff.

I have no idea how many steps I take a day! But I usually take Kay for a walk every day (unless I’m double teaching). I’d b interested to see where I land!

when I was living in the city, it wasn’t unusual for me to hit 20,000 (that includes a workout, of course). Isn’t it great?

Now that I’m in the burbs, I probably do 4-5k less on a daily basis. I still hit 10,000 without too much of a problem because of the gym, the commute, etc, but nothing spectacular.

I averaged at least six miles of activity when I worked in Chicago. I would ride my bike year round (unless too much snow) 2 miles to the train station. My office was a mile walk from the train station, and I walked 45 minutes on my lunch break – usually to Heaven on Seven to buy a jalapeno corn muffin – so worth the mileage for one of those. Have you been to Heaven on Seven??
