Spinning For the Win!

April 30th, 2012 13 comments

I’ve always loved spinning. I even became certified to teach spinning a few years ago (though, I found out the hard way that it was more fun for me to take a spinning class than to teach it – I’ll stick with step and weights – classes I know I’m good at teaching!). However, I didn’t fall in LOVE with spinning until I attended one of Jenn’s classes. And when she opened her own studio (Psycle) I was ecstatic!

It’s seriously a party on a bike. Great music, motivating instructor, and a badass attitude – she basically kicks my ass every class. It’s awesome.

So when I received an email saying that Anne, one of Psycle’s instructors, had made it to the final round of Bad Girl Ventures, I couldn’t not promote it. She wants to create an indoor cycling studio using bikes that generate electricity while you spin, making her studio “green”. Check it out:

Anne Hartnett, 28
Prospective Founder, Harness Fitness
Founding date TBD, Cleveland, Ohio

The idea: As one of BadGirl Ventures’ Spring 2012 Finalists, Hartnett is in the fledgling stage of her entrepreneurial career. She envisions Harness Fitness as a wellness studio that will garner a “triple bottom line.” With stationary bikes that capture the energy exerted by their users, Hartnett says she’ll evaluate her success not only on profits, but also on “the community we create, the impact our products and services have on the planet, and the influence of our profits on our local economy.”

Sweet inspiration: “I really look up to the entrepreneurs that we’re seeing birthed through our compromised economy,” says Hartnett, citing Danielle Deboe, who opened the the trendy retail spot The Dredger’s Union in Downtown Cleveland in 2010 and the niche boutique Room Service in 2007. “She’s paving the way for local businesses to grow. She sells all locally made products and they’re very unique.”

If you think Anne’s idea is as cool as I do, please complete this short survey. Once the survey is submitted you’ll be entered to win a $50 Lululemon gift card. Win win!

Edited:  Sorry, the Lulu survey is closed, but this one will enter you to win a $25 gift card to Market Garden Brewery (it will literally take you 2 minutes).  Sorry about that!

Do you spin? Do you have a favorite spinning studio in your city??

Everything He Asked For

I’m so glad I had a relaxing weekend because my life at work is about to get cray cray. It’s the beginning of “busy season” for me and I’m sure the next few months are going to be one big ball of stress.

And I don’t want to brag or anything, but I think I may be turning into quite the chef……..

Beautiful feast, right?? Btw, C’s just drinking pop out of that wine glass. It’s a little tradition of ours to drink out of wine glasses on special occasions. :)

To say I was worried about this meal is an understatement. I had never cooked crab legs before, let alone a full out boil, but OMG guys, everything was deeee-licious. Maybe even the best crab legs I’ve ever had?? Though, to be honest, I just started eating them last year so I haven’t eaten TOO many. :)

It was quite the birthday for my little man. He got the dinner he asked for:

AND the presents he asked for:

It was probably his biggest and best birthday yet. But you only turn 10 once, right? Though, he still has his “friend” birthday party next weekend so he kinda gets to turn 10 twice, huh? ;)

As for me, I took the weekend off from running, but I did go to my favorite spinning class both Saturday and Sunday (ummmm…..had to work off that cake). Back to the grind tomorrow – my official training starts in about a week!

Did you run this weekend? Did you celebrate anything?

Great SunDAY

Does anyone know why the weekend goes by so fast? It’s quite a puzzle to me…..the hours seem to just FLY by! And Sunday nights are always my least favorite night of the week. Does anyone else feel this way? I guess the start of the long work week just seems so daunting.

This morning was my first Sunday morning in MONTHS that I didn’t have to get up and run! So, to celebrate, I slept in until 10:00 (!!!) and then started my day with some baking. The perfect morning. :)

First order of business were Jenna’s Oh Baby bars:

I had made these for the Team Challenge pre-race party and they were a hit, so I knew just what to make to take to a certain friend for a little Christmas/house warming gift. :)

Then right after, I got to making Mama Pea’s dough balls:

These have been quite the rage in the food blog world so I had to see what all the fuss was about.

The only change I made was that I used Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips (and no peanut butter chips). When I asked Jay how they turned out, he only had one word:

FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC.

So, J and I pretty much ate peanut butter and chocolate all morning and day. I have a horrible habit of tasting as I bake – I would much rather eat the dough/batter than the finished product! And now my jeans do not like me. Hehe (…….but seriously, they don’t……..).

We attempted to make ourselves feel better offset the sugar coma, and went to the 4:00 Spin class at the gym. I can’t tell you the last time I took a Spin class (or any cardio class for that matter since I’m always teaching). It was GREAT! Totally kicked my azz, and I loved every minute of it. :)

So, even though Sunday nights are my least favorite night of the week, I had a pretty awesome SunDAY.

How was your Sunday? Do you have a least favorite night of the week?
